Embodied Inclusion: Increasing LGBTQ+ Representation in Yoga

In this workshop, we discuss how yoga and community spaces can be more LGBTQ+ inclusive through the lens of modern social movements and ancient history. You will learn how yoga relates to LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion. We will explore how yoga’s past, from mythology to folklore to history, supports practices of diversity, equity, and accessibility. We will dive deep into tools we can use together to make our yoga and community spaces braver and safer for LGBTQ+ folx while honoring yoga's cultures and traditions.

This class is open to allies and LGBTQ+ identified persons.

Pooja Virani will be facilitating this workshop with guest speaker Anjali Rao.

Anjali Rao is a yoga teacher, social justice activist, multi-cultural training specialist and a cancer survivor. She is an Indian American immigrant from Bangalore, India. Her work explores yoga philosophy and history integrating marginalized voices using story- telling, imagery and poetry. She teaches intensives integrating social justice and yoga, is a part of teacher training faculty, conducts workshops and is a speaker at wellness conferences .

We offer sliding scale pricing for this workshop:

  • $30 Community Rate: For folks who need financial assistance

  • $40 Sustainer Rate: Base cost of this course

  • $50 Supporter Rate: For folx who can afford to pay a bit more, you'll enable community members experiencing financial difficulties to join at a lower rate
